It’s looking to be a long December

December 16th, 2008

This month has been nothing but stress. My car has been in and out of the shop because of transmission problems: I had the gearbox replaced 2 weeks ago, and when I went to drive down to one of my employer’s branch offices, the gear box went out again! So, I practically haven’t had my car for the past two weeks, and I still haven’t heard anything about when I might be able to pick my car up.

Besides that work is hectic as usual. We’re finally launching our new Intranet site after over a year of development. I’m still caught in an ever going tug-of-war between commercial and non-commercial work.

To top it all off, I still have a lot of Christmas shopping to get done

Happy Holidays

Busy Weekend

November 3rd, 2008

This past Saturday and Sunday were a flurry of activity indeed: Besides taking photos in the early afternoon on Saturday, the whole lot of us (Bob, Jill, Raegan, and I) went over to Steve’s for a Halloween party that had an amazing turnout and, despite having to leave early, was a whole lot of fun. Sunday found us enjoying the extra hour of sleep with relatively little pain felt from the activities of the night before. After that, Raegan and I trekked out to REI to pick up that pack I’ve been eying up for the past several months; I also wound up purchasing my own membership. We showed up a little early, so I gave Raegan a quick tour of my old campus to kill some time before the store opened; it’s amazing how much that place has changed since I’ve graduated and moved on in life.

After my shopping spree, I came home and raked up all of the leaves, that are now waiting their final fate of incineration in the burn barrel. While I was doing that, Bob took his hatchet and went to town on the tall bamboo-like weeds that surrounded the shed; the yard looks totally different now without them being there. We’re planning on growing hops in that area in the spring to hide the nastiness of my neighbor’s collection of junk.

Is it the weekend yet?

This wonderful week started out by the check engine coming on during my commute into work on Monday morning. $450 and a new thermostat later my troubles were behind me — or so I thought: The check engine light came on again on my way home from work on Tuesday; they cleared the codes and I was on my way home again. Yesterday after work, the dang thing comes on again! This time, it was something different: Cam shaft alignment. The mechanic added an oil additive to the engine in hopes that will keep that from showing up again. If not, it may cost me $1500 to get it fixed — oh joy!

On top of that, I rented a U-Haul truck to pick up a dinning room set from my girlfriend’s manager’s house. The move went well, with the exception of the table that we had to wrestle through the kitchen door in order for it to go inside of the house.

To top it all off, I got grease all over my pants from my bicycle as I was taking it out of the back of my car.  I hope it doesn’t rain today, so I can at least get a decent ride in…
