I never thought in my wildest dreams that yesterday would be the last day that I’d be driving my GTI. Raegan and I went over to the Jeep dealership down the road from my house and took a 2009 Wrangler out for a test drive. By the end of the day, I was driving home in a brand new blue Wrangler! The financing is in the same ballpark as my GTI and has an unlimited warranty! So now I’ve got to buy a new roof rack for the jeep, and get my head deck and subwoofer installed in the bad boy! Pictures will be posted soon!

It’s a Jeep Thing
April 1st, 2009Over did it
March 23rd, 2009I think I took a little too much advantage of the nice weather we experienced this past weekend in Lower Bucks County: Friday I went rock climbing with my girlfriend at the Doylestown Rock Gym; Saturday I went mountain biking in the morning and afternoon (a total of about 4 hours), did yard work, then went out to Dave & Busters later that night; Sunday I went on Bike King’s Sunday morning ride. With all of that activity, I can honestly say that pretty much every part of my body is sore, especially my arms. It sure beats sitting inside!
Becoming my own mechanic
February 27th, 2009While mountain biking this past weekend, I managed to bend my rear derailer to the point where it needed to be replaced. Instead of taking it to my local bike shop (Bike King) to have it fixed, I decided to finally take the plunge and install it myself. I ordered the new derailer (a SRAM X-7, although I should have gotten that X-0!) and a new shift cable.
Once the parts arrived, I threw the bike up on my stand, took the old derailer off, ran the new cable, made all of the adjustments, and I was all set! All in all it took me about a half an hour to get everything done! I think with a little more practice, I might eventually have the confidence to start tweaking my road bike….the only reason I don’t is because those components are much more expensive, and if I screw that up, I can’t walk the bike back to a car….
Long Weekend
October 13th, 2008After the insanely long and brutal week, I decided to take this past Friday off after hearing news that my car would indeed have to go back to the shop again to get fixed. Fear not though, I managed to dodge a $1500 bullet, and have the car serviced under warranty despite the fact that it was about 600 miles past — thank God for that!
As I was waiting for the car to be done at the shop, I managed to do some much needed chores around the house, watch The Flying Scottsman (A movie about Graeme Obree’s cycling career, mostly about his peculiar riding styles and positions). After that, I wound up riding my mountain bike down to Core Creek park for a quick ride with one of my mountain biking buddies; he hasn’t been out in a while and needs to get ready for the Blue Marsh ride that’s happening in two weeks.
Visiting home was nice, despite the fact that I now have to wait for my car to be worked on…again. This time, it’s not something relating to the engine, but rather the windshield; it has a stress fracture and needs to be replaced. I would have done this down in Langhorne, but the owner of this shop up here (where I had the work done a year ago for the accident) agreed to do it for free. With that said, I did manage to get two really nice rides in on my road bike, and I finally got a chance to stop by ABC for some beer and a Stromboli! Much to my delight, they had their stout on cask, which I think is probably their best beer. I knew I should have brought one of my growlers.
